"Easy Comprehension, Wider Adoption"
XML Schemas define the structure and data types of an XML document. They are themselves represented as an XML document. Proper understanding of an XML document requires understanding the XML Schema that defines the XML document. XML Schemas are quite complicated with features such as extending, restricting, importing, including and even redefining. Even though many of the XML Schemas are meant for functional users so that they can design new systems or map existing systems to be standards compliant, their complexity makes it difficult for these users to study them. Even many software developers have difficulty understanding the XML Schemas due to their complexity. Visual Schema addresses this problem by presenting the XML Schemas as familiar and easily navigable html forms, typically found in enterprise business applications (ERP/CRM), that help the users easily understand the structure of an XML document. See Visual Schema for XML Schema help for more details of the visual presentation of the schemas.

Academic research to make XML Schemas easier to understand is found at Visual XML Schemas Based on Reserved Graph Grammars and XML Schema Compact Syntax which also lists a paper on Making XML Schema Easier To Read And Write.
